Ajax have won the European Cup four times (1971, 1972, 1973, 1995) and will face Real Madrid in the group stages again this season, having done so last year. Former player Frank de Boer coaches a team that no longer boasts the talents of Luis Suarez and goalkeeper Stekelenburg, but still has internationals in every position. Ajax won the Eredivise league last season and have strengthened themselves with the signings of central midfielder Aissati, midfielders Theo Janssen, Mats Rits, Thulani Sereno, defender Dek Boerrigten, and striker Sigthorsson.
